Li Cossi is the name of a suggestive beach nestled between the greenery of the Mediterranean scrub and the red rocks of Gallura in northern Sardinia, a place I visited during a trip in the summer of 2020. In the painting it is transfigured, surrounded by darkness and dominated by an imposing plastic simulacrum of a coral reef.
This artwork brings together the Marine Litter Art experience I had in 2021 in Sicily with the memories of that trip which for me have now taken on a bittersweet connotation, altered by everything that came after and also become almost a simulacrum of what I once believed.
The painting therefore starts from the autobiographical starting point but ends up embracing the theme of the marine ecosystem, the exploitation of the coasts and environmental pollution which often undergoes a drastic surge in summer with mass tourism.
