The mirror is part of the “Corpi in transito” project, which was conceived with the intention of reflecting on certain dynamics that characterize interpersonal relationships today. Using a simple, almost geometric, figuration, the paintings present imaginary scenarios in which the title, context, and characters help delineate characteristics or situations that relate to the difficulties of human relationships within a society of images and consumption. Specifically, this painting focuses on individualism and the importance placed on appearances, attitudes that, thanks also to social networks, often dominate over all other values: we feel in control of our digital microworld, and often this is enough to give us an illusion of control and happiness. Often, there is no sincere interest in building new relationships unless it is for our own gain, and it is more important to show a shining castle than to ask for help while trapped in a collapsing tower, because appearances no longer concern only the perception others have of us but also our own.
