The painting stems from a desire to represent those unhealthy desires that, fueled by our constant coexistence with a society of images and consumption, arise within us, over which we seemingly have no control. We know that satisfying them would mean facing fleeting gratification and more serious negative consequences, yet we cannot help but be tempted by their allure. The painting depicts a swimmer, her back to the internal storm gripping her, staring at the surface of a pool with stagnant, unhealthy waters; a strip of rough canvas, like a barrier or a life preserver, prevents her from diving. In this sense, the canvas becomes a metaphor for the skin, for our deepest essence, which, despite everything, knows the risk and tries, deep down, to save us from a choice that would bring no good.
