The painting was conceived with the intention of sparking a reflection on resource exploitation and the climate emergency. A group of skiers is preparing to begin a descent, while further down, others are already on the slopes: the natural setting merely serves as a useless backdrop to their enjoyment, fading into the distance as if behind a curtain of smoke. At the center of the composition stands an abandoned swimming pool, filled with dirty, stagnant water, which, like a hallucination, lies outside the rules of reality: the shadows are inverted, there is no real connection to the winter scene. However in the artist’s view this pool is a symbol of the reality those skiers should see and experience, mistaking enjoyment for the life of the planet.
Landscape is inspired by Alta Badia mountains.
